Bursaries for Regeneration course

Graduates

IGNITE is currently offering bursaries for the Certificate of Regeneration at Northumbria University.

The Certificate in Regeneration is a part time, six month course aimed at people new to regeneration, or community activists or volunteers who now want to undertake formal learning in an informal setting.

The Certificate runs on a Wednesday from 1pm until 4pm at the main university campus in Newcastle city centre and there are two intakes for the course – January and September.

To date IGNITE has given 10 bursaries to people from the community and voluntary sector.

Feedback…

  • Andrea Langston, a current student on the course, said: "The Certificate in Regeneration has help me to gain a national perspective on many current issues within our market town, in particular the work-based project has allowed me to conduct much deeper research and analysis into one of our key projects. The networking is also invaluable and I have met several colleagues with whom I will be keeping in touch with. I think it is very important for rural practitioners to understand the relationship with urban regeneration and the potential benefits that wider thinking can bring to their own market town.”
  • Les Smith, a Blyth Valley Borough Councillor who successfully graduated from the course in 2007 said: “I found the course stimulating and the encouragement of a self analytical process meant I was able to link past experience with recognised case studies. I learnt that we do not need to continually re-invent the wheel and that each of us has a skill or experience which can facilitate regeneration work. It will enable me to play a fuller part in activities locally and be able to understand and pass on that understanding to residents in the area.”

The next in-take is September 2008. Please keep coming back for current updates.
